This workshop provides professional actors an opportunity to exercise and fine tune their preparation skills.  When actors feel secure in their ability to create whatever the job requires, they can breathe freely and focus on what their characters are focused on. They arrive confidently in work mode, not fear of judgement mode. Practice may not make perfect, but it does contribute to developing one’s craft and professionalism. Actors have job requirements, they must accept that there are expectations involved that they must meet. The ability to create whoever, wherever, whenever takes work. Over the course of the five days the actors will be assigned assorted scenes and monologues to prepare, as well as be called upon to improvise, achieve specific emotional reactions, sing and dance. A very full five days spent preparing as very busy, very successful actors do.

ACTING INTENSIVE

January 29 - February 2, 1pm - 6pm

September 2 - 6, 11am - 5pm

Participants will be assigned an initial scene and monologue from contemporary material prior to the beginning of the workshop to prepare. Over the course of the five days, more will be assigned as if each actor is in the enviable position to be receiving multiple auditions they must prepare in a limited amount of time to present (whether self-taped or in person). It's akin to going to the gym for an intense workout. Thoroughly working your acting muscles. Throw improvisation and assorted exercises into the mix and you have a very full, very fun, very intense five days.

What you focus your attention on in the limited time available makes all of the difference in what you present. So... work, work, work and a whole lot of love and laughter!

The workshop takes you through the process of creation.  From the initial reading of the script to the realization of the given character’s emotional, psychological, spiritual, physical, and sociological world.  In other words, the character's life.

"Don't think for a moment that I'm really like any of the characters I've played. I'm not. That's why it's called 'acting'."  -- Leonardo DiCaprio

An actor’s job is to create different types of people.  But instead of working to make themselves like the character, too many  actors choose to make the character like them.

"I find it important to ask, How am I not like this person? What gaps in my own understanding of the way people work do I need to fill in to be able to play this person?"
-- Michelle Williams

Actors must use themselves to create but not make it about themselves.  They must liberate themselves from their need to limit themselves to their own experience.  They must develop and use their imaginations.

“First, last and always, a player must have imagination. Imagination kindles the feelings, steers the actor through the character into emotion, enables him to reproduce feelings he himself has never experienced.”   -- Alla Nazimova

And believe!

"That's probably the biggest secret of acting: If the actor believes it themselves, they can make you believe it."

-- Melissa Leo

Develop the skills you need to become an actor with both the ability and the confidence to succeed AND have a lot of fun doing it!

"Actors are investigators...Actors are responsible to the people we play."
-- Philip Seymour Hoffman
